Flora and Fauna

In a week that helps remind us of how lucky we are to live in a country like Australia, I’ve been thinking about the influence of our native surroundings on the development of design.

Native Flower Photography

Inspired by the beauty of Australian flora and fauna, the latest collection (which I will be sharing with you all very soon), draws vision from Australia’s most beautiful natural vegetation.

My soul has always been tuned-in to the flow of nature, its fluidity in shape and its depth of colour. I find myself fixated on the hum of a strong breeze flowing through the leaves of our eucalyptus tree, or I’ll stop and examine the bushels of an acacia as I wander up to the shops with my kids.

If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere. – Vincent Van Gogh

I gather, and collect (by visiting friends like Flowers Vasette), and I try and keep the memory of the bursts of colour or the textural forms in my mind, so that I can draw on them when I need.
Each piece in the new collection highlights newly sourced, milled vegetable tanned leather, which is produced in unique seasonal colours. There are shades of blue willow, iris, violet, terracotta, carmine, dusty pomegranate, liquorice and teal.

I didn’t shy away from colour in my designs, why would I? Nature offers us so many distinctive shades and so many layers of texture, we are way too spoilt for choice not to explore what surrounds us!
